As Hurricane Ida made landfall on August 29, it hit Port Fourchon with 150-mph winds. According to portfourchon.com, the seaport is the base of operations for 250 companies:
It’s home to the Louisiana Offshore Oil Port (LOOP), which handles 10 to 15% of the nation’s domestic oil, as well as 10 to 15% of the nation’s foreign oil.
More than 1.5 million barrels of crude oil are transmitted via pipelines that run through the port each day.
Approximately 15,000 people are flown to offshore drilling rigs per month.
Up to 1,200 trucks travel in and out of Port Fourchon every day.

Fortunately, 288 offshore facilities were evacuated prior to the storm, but that shut down 96% of the Gulf’s crude oil production. Most of the area is without power or water and has been granted disaster status and aid from the federal government. Still, Chett Chiasson, executive director of the Greater Lafourche Port Commission told NPR that it will take weeks to fully assess damages and to recover. This explains the long lines at the gas stations! While there has been much damage — and flooding, complete with alligators — at least the entire city of New Orleans was not flooded due to the post-Katrina levee re-builds. The heroes here? Environmental engineers.
Environmental engineers are also critical at every stage of energy production. Whether they are restoring infrastructure after a disaster or working on a site that already runs smoothly, the degree to how successful an oil or gas operation functions often rides on their shoulders.

Did your inventory magically disappear? Or, perhaps the equipment that was due last week is still not in the field? Vinodkumar Raghothamarao, Director of IHS Markit EMEA states, “Oil and gas companies need to focus…on the non-hydrocarbon supply chains that handle the parts, materials and services required to run the business. The non-hydrocarbon supply chain is very critical to deliver…equipment and services. Procurement and supply chain strategies are set to be in the forefront of critical issues plaguing oil and gas companies.”
We’ve all heard the saying, “Time is money.” Well, so is inventory. A well-managed supply chain will:
Reduce waste and costly downtime
Diminish expenses from lost tool replacements
Manage allocation of inventory across multiple sites
Mitigate risk
Assure safety compliance
Oh, ho, ho, it’s not magic
At a minimum, an oil rig will employ 50 workers and at least double that number for an off-shore rig. That’s a lot of people to manage. Now, consider all the inventory on the move (i.e., vehicles or units and all other equipment and materials) — inventory required for those workers to do their jobs. While there’s actually nothing magical about it, you may feel as if you need to be a wizard to keep track of it all.
You need to track:
Routine inspections and maintenance of vehicles and tools
Use (mileage, hours, etc.)
Life cycle of consumables
Deliveries and returns
The checkout and return of equipment
Location of equipment, especially if managing multiple sites
Incident field reports regarding equipment damage or failure
Contract expirations and renewals
You don’t have to fit into a box
Off-the-shelf solutions are rarely a good fit for any operation. Fortunately, we have a few tricks up our sleeve. Have unique equipment you need to track? We can customize that. Wish email notifications could be automated? We can make that happen, too — and more.
Parent-child data relationships and field associations
Email notifications triggered by entry of specific data

With rig counts and drilling permits on the rise, pipeline construction and expansion isn’t far behind. According to the Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS.gov), the mileage of natural gas pipelines has grown from 1,377,320 miles in 2000 to 1,645,101 miles in 2020, a 16% increase. Likewise, miles of oil pipelines have increased from 158,248 in 2001 to 224,928 in 2019, a 29.6% increase.
There’s been some bad news
In August of 2020, North Carolina experienced the largest gas leak in the state’s history: A leaking pipe sleeve in Huntersville caused 1.2 million gallons of gas to spill before two teenage boys discovered and reported the leak. And you’ve undoubtedly heard about the imperfect storm this month when lightning ignited a gas pipeline leak that caused a fire in the Gulf of Mexico. What’s more, a pipeline pumping station leak caused the fatalities of three technicians in Iran on July 6.
According to the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration, there are four main causes of gas pipeline leaks:
While the amount of pipeline mileage has consistently grown over the past 15+ years, the number of spill incidents affecting U.S. waterways has declined considerably.
Pipelines continue to be the most efficient and economical means of energy transportation by far. The oldest natural gas pipelines — many 60 years old or older — were constructed from cast and wrought iron which are more easily corroded. The Pipeline Safety, Regulatory Certainty, and Job Creation Act of 2011 called for a survey monitoring the replacement progress of these iron pipelines. By end of 2020, 97% of all gas pipelines were made of more durable plastic or steel.
Don’t let the next news story in the pipeline be about your pipeline.
From construction to midstream transportation, Wellsite Report can help you manage your pipeline projects. Our real-time incident reporting includes a summary, location, and incident type. Photos can also be attached to provide more details. But we’re more than just reporting software. Use Wellsite to assign corrective actions and ensure incident resolution workflow and follow-up. As tasks are done, they can be marked “complete” in the app, so there’s never any question about the status of work.

With the prices of oil and natural gas increasing over the past year (up $34.62 and up $1.621, respectively, per the EIA), so are the number of new well sites. The U.S. rig count has increased by 182 rigs over the last 12 months per Baker Hughes. Additionally, the Railroad Commission of Texas issued 732 drilling permits in April 2021 — that’s a 62% increase over the 456 permits they granted in April of 2020. With the number of new well sites on the rise, properly managing their development is more crucial than ever.
Wellsite Report can help you manage your data and site development workflow through a mobile app or web-based interface to ensure safe, efficient, and profitable operations. Having the ability to receive real-time status updates or alerts improves responsiveness to managing issues. Wellsite Report is easy to use, and task-based or stage-based updates can be created and submitted in seconds. They are cloud-stored and readily accessible from any site location.

In September of 2020 WSR’s Form Builder Service and Custom Forms modules broke a new record with over 100k submissions!
WSR began development in 2014 as a management software app with the five CORE features. Storing, managing and analyzing Incidents, Projects, Tasks, Units and Personnel.
Without question, the most powerful and customizable tools of WSR, our Form Builder Service and Custom Forms modules have seen remarkable success since they were first introduced in late 2017. These modules are under near constant development and improvement, all while maintaining their reliability and flexibility. Some features that have helped Form Builder Service and Custom Forms evolve into the tools they are today include;
Dynamic list fields
File and image storage
GPS and signature capture
PDF and Excel exports
Conditional field value and recurring email notifications
Linked Equipment Items through Field Associations on forms
More recent additions include;
Automated Tasks generated from Custom Form submissions
Slider field type
Dynamic Repeating Fields
Fieldsets
Automated Tasks added the ability to create a General Task directly from a Custom Form submission. Dynamic Fields and Fieldsets gave our customers the option to add or remove fields as needed or place them into clearly defined groups.
With every release, Custom Forms and our Form Builder Service continue to grow, granting more flexibility and functionality to WSR’s customers. Where will we it take it next?
For more information or to begin setting up your Custom Forms, contact your Account Administrator!
New Features for FormBuilder
Automated Tasks
In the past, in order to create a General Task, our clients would have to do so within the Task & Action Items workflow and this could not be done from the Mobile Application. With this release General Tasks can now be automatically generated from any form submission; Desktop or Mobile!
Forms can implement Automated Tasks as an optional field, functioning just like other fields
How does it work?
Tick the box to expose the task fields within your form
Fill out the boxes, assign personnel and submit the form as normal
View the form and find the link to the generated task
Or, go to the task directly and find the link back to its corresponding form
For more information and to begin setting up your forms, contact your Account Administrator!
New Field Type: Slider
Another new addition to FormBuilder, the sliding field
What is it? A visual scale and range input selection
The slider is customizable, giving you options to set the range, step and scale
Whether it’s a scale of 1 to 10 or a precise decimal point for measurements, this field is an easy way to capture and visualize data
More Improvements for the App
New file upload max size, from 25MB to 50MB applied throughout the app
Multiple bug fixes
